Mr. R.T. Crow began Lake Saint Louis as a joint development with five other investors in 1966. The initial concept of the investors was to develop a private weekend recreational lake community, eventually expanding their dream into the creation of a whole new town. Today Lake St. Louis boasts high-quality and diverse housing, well-planned residential and commercial areas, and of course, an abundance of both public and private recreational amenities. All of these factors contribute to making Lake Saint Louis one of the best places in the Midwest to live and call home.

St. Charles has many annual events. Check out the St. Charles Riverfest, Festival of the Little Hills, and Oktoberfest. In O’Fallon, don’t miss the Heritage and Freedom Fest—an Independence Day festival with live music, a parade, carnival, and midway. St. Charles is home to the Heritage Museum in Heritage Park, while the O’Fallon’s Historical Society hosts the Log Cabin Museum
 
Lake St. Louis holds an annual City-Wide Garage Sale and an annual July 4th display that is simply epic! And local attractions such as the Lake Forest Country Club—great for a game of golf!—beaches and swimming pools, riding stables, and tennis courts. 
 
One of the greatest recreational attractions in all of St. Louis is the Katy Trail. The Katy Trail State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Missouri that contains the Katy Trail, the country's longest recreational rail trail, built on old railroad track runs. The trail runs 240 miles (390 km), largely along the northern bank of the Missouri River, in the right-of-way of the former Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad. Open year-round from sunrise to sunset, it serves hikers, joggers, and cyclists. It’s a gathering place, a place to ride alone and think, and a place where families can load up the bikes and spend the day moving at their own pace, all stopping at small wineries and cafes along the way.
